KAAD Scholarships 2013 for Developing Countries


TYPE OF CONTEST: Scholarship

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: The KAAD Scholarship Program 1 is addressed to post-graduates and to academics who already gained professional experience and who are interested in postgraduate studies (or research stays) in Germany. This program is administered by regional partner committees, staffed by university professors and church representatives. Normally documents are submitted to the committee of the applicant’s home country.

ELIGIBILITY:

•come from a developing or emerging country in Africa, Asia, the Middle East or Latin America

•have a university degree and professional experience from your home country

•want to acquire a master’s degree or a PhD at a German university or do a post-doctoral research project (2-6 months for established university lecturers) at a German university

•are a Catholic Christian (or general belong to a Christian denomination). Candidates from other religions can apply if they are proposed by Catholic partners and can prove their commitment to interreligious dialogue

•possess German language skills before starting the studies (KAAD can provide a language course of max. 6 months in Germany).

NB: The students from a developing or emerging countries of Ghana, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Cameroon and Nigeria (Africa), Bangladesh, Indonesia, Cambodia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and China (Asia), Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine/Israel and Syria (the Middle East) or Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil (Latin America) can apply for these scholarships.

RULES AND REGULATIONS:

•Above-average performance in studies and research

•The orientation of your studies or research towards permanent reintegration in your home region (otherwise the scholarship is turned into a loan),

•Religious and social commitment (activities) and willingness to inter-religious dialogue.

KAAD is working with focus- and partner countries in your region. There are so-called Partner Committees in these countries and applications are channelled via them. Applications from other countries can be considered only in exceptional cases.

Top 10 Scholarships for the Best International Students



Are you a bright, talented, or highly motivated international student, then you have access to a whole lot of the best scholarships. Listed are the ten most prestigious international scholarship programs out there for the brightest international students from anywhere in the world. If you are from a developing country, also see top scholarships for developing country students.

Government-funded International Scholarships

Fulbright Scholarships

The Fulbright Scholarship Program is the flagship international exchange scholarship program between the U.S. Government and 155 countries. Each year, approximately 1,800 Fulbright scholarships are awarded to excellent foreign students who wish to pursue a Masters or PhD Degree in the United States. The Fulbright Scholarship Program provides full funding for the duration of the study which includes tuition, textbooks, airfare, a living stipend, and health insurance.

Chevening Scholarships

The Chevening Scholarships is the flagship global scholarship program of the British Government. Every year, it provides scholarships to around 1000 outstanding students from over 130 countries who wish to pursue postgraduate study in the UK. Chevening Scholarships are full scholarships which cover tuition fees, monthly stipend and various one-off allowances as well as international travel to and from UK.

Endeavour Awards

The Endeavour Awards is the Australian Government’s internationally competitive, merit-based scholarship program providing opportunities for citizens of the Asia Pacific, the Middle East, The Caribbean, Europe and the Americas to undertake study, research and professional development in Australia. The scholarship funds tuition fees, monthly stipend, travel allowance, establishment allowance as well as health and travel insurance.

DAAD Scholarships The Federal Foreign Office of Germany, through the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers a wide range scholarships to outstanding foreign students, graduates, doctoral students, and young and early-stage researchers from all academic disciplines as well as from the fields of music, art, and performing arts. Funding varies per scholarship but generally includes a monthly payment based on the scholarship holder’s academic level and may include travel expenses, health insurance, accident insurance, and personal/private liability insurance. DAAD awards more than 70,000 scholars every year.

Swiss Government Scholarships The Swiss Government awards a range of scholarships to foreign students from participating countries. These scholarships provide international students from all fields with the opportunity to pursue postgraduate studies or research at a publicly funded university or recognized institution in Switzerland. The scholarship awards a monthly stipend of around CHF 1600-1920. Around 1,000 eligible applications are accepted each year and only 1/5 of these applications (around 200) are granted a scholarship.

Eiffel Scholarships

The Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Programme is funded by the French Government and was launched to attract elite overseas students who wish to pursue Master’s, Engineering and PhD degrees in France. The Eiffel Programme does not cover tuition fees but scholarship holders are given a monthly allowance, travel costs, health insurance and possibly an accommodation allowance. Approximately 400 new scholarships are awarded each year.

University-funded International Scholarships

Rhodes Scholarships

Established in the will of Cecil Rhodes in 1902, the Rhodes is the oldest and perhaps the most prestigious international scholarship program in the world. The Rhodes Scholarships are postgraduate awards that supports exceptional international students from selected countries at the University of Oxford. A Rhodes Scholarship covers all university fees, personal stipend, health insurance, and airfare to and from the student’s home country. A class of 83 Scholars are selected each year.

Gates Cambridge Scholarships

Gates Cambridge Scholarships are full-cost awards for graduate study and research in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. The scholarships are open to all international students from all over the world. A Gates Cambridge Scholarship covers the full cost of studying at Cambridge namely: university fees, maintenance allowances, airfare, and some dependant’s allowance. About 100 new Gates Scholars are awarded annually (although the exact number of awards may change from year to year).

Institute-funded International Scholarships

Joint Japan World Bank Scholarships

The Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program provides scholarships to students from World Bank member countries to pursue development-related studies at selected Universities around the world. The program provides annual awards to cover the cost of completing a master’s degree or its equivalent including tuition, subsistence allowance, travel costs. Eligible applications are assessed according to three main factors: academic excellence, professional experience, and relevance of program of study.

Rotary Foundation Global Study Grants

The Rotary Foundation offers scholarship opportunities through the Rotary Foundation Global Grants which may be used to fund postgraduate studies of a Rotary club member/nominee in any country where there is a Rotary Club (in about 70 countries). The grants can fund the whole duration of your studies.

Chevron MSc Subsea Engineering Scholarship 2013

Description ◦The scholarship is open to all students wishing to commence the full time MSc in Subsea Engineering in September 2013.

◦The scholarship is valued at £14,515 for the one year duration of the MSc in Subsea Engineering degree course. This will cover postgraduate tuition fees, with the remainder providing a maintenance stipend.

To be awarded the scholarship you must receive and then firmly accept an unconditional offer of a place on the MSc in Subsea Engineering at the University of Aberdeen. ◦All students meeting the criteria above, regardless of nationality or fee status, are eligible to apply for the Chevron MSc Subsea Engineering Scholarship.

Addax Petroleum Development (Nig) Limited invites qualified candidates for its 2012/2013 National Merit Tertiary Institutions Scholarship Awards Scheme. General Eligibility: ◦Must be a Nigerian.

◦Must be a registered, full time 100 level undergraduate in any Nigerian Tertiary Institution.

◦Must have 5 '0' level credit passes in one sitting including English Language and Mathematics.

Aptitude Test
